Stelle’s Drone Guidelines
If you want to fly drones or model aircraft for fun, we recommend flying within the programming of a community-based organization such as the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).
Check and follow all local laws and ordinances before flying over private property.
Do not conduct surveillance or photograph persons in areas where there is an expectation of privacy without the individual’s permission.
Register with the FAA at https://faadronezone.faa.gov/.
The Board recommends drone users take The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) and carry proof of test passage.
Have a current FAA registration, mark (PDF) your drones on the outside with the registration number, and carry proof of registration with you when flying.
Note: Beginning September 16, 2023, if your drone requires an FAA registration number it will be also required to broadcast Remote ID information.
Residents and those within Stelle are encouraged to download and utilize the “B4UFLY” app when operating a drone here: https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/b4ufly
Keep your aircraft in eyesight at all times and use an observer to assist if needed.
Remain well clear of and do not interfere with manned aircraft operations, and you must see and avoid other aircraft and obstacles at all times.
Fly at or below FAA-authorized altitudes in controlled airspace (Class B, C, D, and surface Class E designated for an airport) only with prior FAA authorization by using LAANC or DroneZone.
Fly at or below 400 feet in Class G (uncontrolled) airspace.
Do not fly over unprotected persons or moving vehicles, and remain well clear from individuals and vulnerable property.
Do not fly in adverse weather conditions such as in high winds or reduced visibility, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Ensure the operating environment is safe and that the operator is competent and proficient in the operation of the drone.
Do not fly near or over sensitive infrastructure or property such as power stations, water treatment facilities, correctional facilities, heavily traveled roadways, government facilities, etc.
Do not operate your drone in a manner that endangers the safety of the national airspace system.
